Castaic, California.  Just minutes north of Santa Clarita is Castaic with surrounding foothills and views of the local mountains and canyon vistas, Castaic has a natural unspoiled beauty.

What’s in A Name The name Castaic is a Chumash Indian word pronounced "Kashtuk" The Chumash were early inhabitants of this region and today many of caves they lived in are still being explored in the area that is now known as Piru off highway 126.

A Little Bit of History In the 1900’s, The early settlers called the intersection of The Old Road and the 126 highway "Castaic Junction" and it is still called that today, at the Junction there was a post office and a train depot stop, the train stop which was resemblant of a small shack was destroyed when the Saint Francis Dam failed in 1926.
Castaic has roots in cattle ranches and farming. The town began to flourish as the location was convenient for travelers using the Old Ridge Route, Interstate 5 has replaced the Ridge Route, if you are feeling nostalgic you can still travel the Old Ridge Route Road, it makes for a nice drive winding thru the hills above Castaic up to highway 138.

Castaic Growth Over the last 20 years Castaic has seen tremendous growth with many new home developments built, the largest of those is the area known as Hillcrest Park an area consisting of hundreds of newer homes most built in the early to mid 1990’s. Construction styles vary from traditional 1 and 2 story homes to sprawling estate homes with large lots. Hillcrest Park neighborhood is where 2 of our older schools were relocated, Our original elementary school, built in 1906 and the middle school that was established in about 1970 both of the schools were located on Ridge Route Road. After the new schools were built in Hillcrest Park, the old schools saw the fate of the wrecking ball and were demolished.
The next new home development project was Double C Ranch, with construction starting in 1995/1996 where you can find homes averaging 3000 square feet and many with 3 car garages. Several phases were built with the latest being around the year 2001/ 2002.
The latest neighborhood, North Lake, constructed in 1999/2000 with several phases added to that, many from 2003 and 2004. North Lake is located above the Lake where many homes have the luxury of a view of Lake Castaic right from their own property. A new Elementary school is in North Lake and the town council has talked of a new middle school and possibly a new high school for the neighborhood.
