Stevenson Ranch, Westridge and Castaic may have to wait until June 2008 before they will have the information they seek to determine how they proceed when it comes to annexation.
Annexation Decision delayed. The Santa Clarita Valley’s west side communities - which include Stevenson Ranch and Castaic - are part of three county regions conducting studies and compiling data to make an educated decision regarding self-determination. Residents and local and county officials were hoping to obtain results of the studies this month to determine whether the three unincorporated areas of the valley will remain as they are, incorporate, annex into the city of Santa Clarita or form a Community Services District.
The two studies - an Initial Feasibility Analysis and a Community Options Comparison Report - were set to be released this month. However, the county is overwhelmed by data requests by consulting firms charged with compiling the reports. The data the consulting firms hope to acquire from the county includes data on property, sales, and use tax; animal care and control; the Fire and Sheriff’s departments; Parks and Recreation; Public Works; public safety & health; public libraries; and regional planning, among others. The reports will provide an in-depth analysis of property tax and sales tax revenue being generated, as well as the cost of services and other cost data, in the pre-designated boundary areas of Castaic, Westridge and Stevenson Ranch.
