Los Angeles City Council members express disapproval of the Newhall Ranch proposed development of 21,000 homes. The vote on Tuesday was the last chance the city council had to state their case, with this project on the books for the last 10 years and having gone through many County level public hearings it may be a last ditch effort on the City’s part.
The unanimous vote by all 14 City council members Tuesday brought by a motion from Los Angeles City district 7 councilman Richard Alarcon.
From the Signal: "Los Angeles hereby includes in its 2007-08 State Legislative program OPPOSITION to the County of Los Angeles’ proposed actions relative to the Newhall Ranch Specific Plan." further, Los Angeles, they contend in the motion, "is in a vulnerable position in regards to the negative impacts of these types of developments."
This project has been on the books for 10 years and the City of Los Angeles is just now crying foul stating it will harm the City, the City of Los Angeles is concerned about traffic? critics of the development, the most significant "negative impact" remains the increased traffic anticipated by commuters pouring into Los Angeles every day.
