Newhall Murals
Three murals have been painted in downtown Newhall, California. This is part of the revitalization efforts within the downtown area. The Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee reviewed 36 artists’s proposals for the Newhall Mural Project and selected four California artists, including one from the Santa Clarita Valley, to paint three distinct themes.
The murals, which feature ultra-violet and anti-graffiti protection, were installed Monday and unveiled Tuesday afternoon. The city of Santa Clarita paid the artists $3,000 for their work.

Mural near El Tracadero Steakhouse
Nicole Ponsler’s vibrant depiction of California Vaqueros graces the north side of Market Street and El Trocadero Steakhouse at 24274 San Fernando Road. In the mural, cowboys are caught rustling steers with one vaquero flying off his horse. Although she has worked on other murals with a project called Rural Murals in Mendecino County, this is the first one she has done on her own.

Artists Victoria Sulski, and Peter Bartczak, of Paradise were chosen as a team to depict The Walk of Western Stars theme on the west side of the Source building at 24254 San Fernando Road.
In the night scene, a reel of film sits in the back of a flying wooden wagon. A woman sitting in the wagon is looking and waving back while an old-time cameraman is capturing the whole scene.

Work Boot Warehouse building
Local artist, Frank Rock’s mission was to depict the history of Santa Clarita between 1800 and 1900.
His mural of a yellow two-story Southern Hotel from 1887 faces north toward Market Street on the Work Boot Warehouse building at 24275 San Fernando Road, the site where the historic structure once stood.
The murals have all been treated with ultra violet and anti-graffitti protection. I’m going down that way today and will plan to stop by and check these out.
