Newhall Water Going “Green”
The Newhall County Water District is going green. Newhall Water announces plans to build environmentally sound "green" office space. The current office of 40 years is in need of major updating. Water district staff is eagerly awaiting the completion of the new building which is expected to be complete by 2010.
A company spokesperson is quoted "Designing and constructing ’smart’ can yield great benefits without burdening the project with unnecessary expense." District board members gave the green light Thursday night for construction plans to begin for an environmentally friendly ‘green’ facility. Listed among the builder’s environmental concerns are:
Public transportation: Promote the use of by building within a half mile of the Metrolink and a quarter-mile of a bus stop on San Fernando Road.
Water efficiency: low-flow and ultra low-flow plumbing fixtures promise to reduce potable water usage by 30 percent or more.
Energy and atmosphere: The district can look forward to spending less on energy as builders take "advantage of daylight to light the facility" and reduce the amount of heat generated by artificial lighting.
Materials and resources: By using recycled material, the project expects to lessen the district’s impact on the environment and divert waste from landfills.
Indoor environmental quality: "By providing daylight in 75 percent of all regularly occupied areas, not only can energy costs be reduced, but a healthier indoor environment is achieved through views and good lighting."
