Garbage Truck Drivers On Strike

Homeowners in Stevenson Ranch and Castaic might find their trash start piling up along sidewalks after drivers for Waste Management Inc. went on strike early Friday morning.

The company says it’s planning to bring in replacment drivers and that Waste Management brought in replacement drivers, residents and businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley’s unincorporated areas could see delays in their trash pickup.but a company spokeswoman said. residents and businesses in the city of Santa Clarita boundaries will not be affected.

The strike involves about 500 union truck drivers who serve 225,000 residents and 29,000 businesses in the L.A. area.

A new contract has been in the works since August and members of the Teamsters Local 396 union recently voted to reject a tentative agreement on a new contract after the last one expired Sept. 30.
