A House on the Move or a Parking Lot?
Patrick Richardson’s home has sat on the 101 Freeway for five days, causing motorists to do a double take and area business owners wondering how much
longer this house will be parked on the shoulder. Richardson, who decided to move his house on his own from Santa Monica to Santa Clarita with a truck and trailer that broke down over and over along the way in an extreme moving nightmare Saturday that tied up traffic for eight hours.
Patrick Richardson a local Castaic resident and owner of the broken down house did get a permit from Caltrans to move the oversized load up to rural Placerita Canyon. But instead of following the authorized route - from the Santa Monica Freeway to the San Diego Freeway north and eventually to the Antelope Valley Freeway - Richardson took a detour, possibly to avoid the climb over the Sepulveda Pass.
Around the 10 and 110 freeways, the wheels on his vehicle started falling off, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jason McCutcheon.
"They came off one by one during the travel," said McCutcheon. "It was pretty ugly." Concerned passers-by called authorities, who caught up with Richardson making roadside repairs on the Hollywood Freeway near Silver Lake. Raring to keep going, Richardson jumped behind the wheel and pulled the house again, only to hear its roof smack into the Western Avenue overpass. Oops!
It’s been 5 days now and apparently Richardson is making plans to move the house.
(Monday 5:00 PM; Just heard on the radio that Caltrans is giving the owner till midnight Monday to move the house or they will do it. I’ll be on the lookout for any further updates)

Well, it’s been 4 days since you posted this and I cannot believe that no one else is picking up your post. Mostly I’m just commenting again because I just saw live video of this house on the freeway on our channel 15 news cast at 5:00 pm. I tried to record it, but wasn’t fast enough…
Just thought I’d let you know that your hilarious story has made the local news here in Scottsdale Arizona.
Good job being the first source to post about (well, that I saw anyways) considering our news channel just did a story about it!
