Foreclosure Fallout for Neighbors

November 11th, 2007 · 1 Comment

What gets left behind when home owners facing foreclosure choose to walk away from their homes? Green pools, broken windows and overgrown landscape.
In recent months increasing numbers of homeowners have been forced into foreclosure, some owners trash their homes before they are repossessed. Reports are circulating that owners are stripping anything and everything from the interior, sinks, toilets, granite counter tops, kitchen cabinets, windows and even their AC and heating units are being sold. Sometimes the shell of the home is all that remains.

What remains leaves little to be desired and in fact many times in order to keep the neighborhood looking decent nearby owners have attempted to keep the landscaped watered and even go as far as adding pool chemicals.
What can be done if one of your neighbors walks away from their home?
Depending on the County or City you live in will dictate how much help (if any) you will get. Until the home is bank owned many times there is no help available and even then, the bank may not want to invest money on repairs.
Here in Los Angeles County they will help if rodents or mosquitoes are at issue. Call (And no guarantee if they will come) Vector Control they will come out with no charge to the party calling.
